Love it or loathe it, Game of Thrones was one of the most popular and talked about shows of recent times.
The unique and controversial combination of themes, extreme gore, fantasy and interesting characters made it a win amongst fans.
One of the scariest figures was the aptly named, Gregor ‘the Mountain’ Clegane, a giant beast of a man that was literally crushing his enemies’ heads like eggshells in the show.
Thankfully, in real life, actor Hafthor Björnsson (AKA Thor) couldn’t be any more different to his on-screen persona!
Recently turned father, Thor has won the World’s Strongest Man competition and currently holds the world deadlift record of 501 kilograms!
The gentle giant, however, created shockwaves after announcing his retirement from Strong Man games and instead shifted his focus on being fitter and healthier so he can be there to enjoy life with his wife and newborn son!
The shockwaves continue to come as just weeks ago, Hafthor revealed how he lost a whopping 50kg!!! Going from 205kg to 155kg!
What do you think was the solution? Keto? Intermittent fasting? A machine that vibrates your fat away or cryotherapy? Of course not, you lazy bums (looking at you Sebastian)!
He’s worked mind-bogglingly and almost impossibly hard to achieve his goals!
Achieving outstanding results in anything in life requires determination and extreme willpower! Hafthor has previously said he would eat anything if it allowed him to get bigger and stronger to win his Strong Man games! In doing so, he won his titles but he also became a literal mountain of a man with a fair amount of body fat to go with it!
He has now directed that extreme focus on his new goal, to be in the best shape of his life and he’s achieved it!
Amazing results never happen by chance and as always you have to do the work to see the results you want! Whether in fitness, your career, your business, whatever, your results will reflect your efforts!
So, what’s he eating?
Breakfast
· Three eggs
· 200 grams of chicken
· A smoothie that's made of 150 grams of yogurt, 100 grams of berries and 40 grams of oats
Meal 2
· 220 grams of tenderloin beef
· 180 grams of white rice
· 100 grams of veggies
Post Workout Meal
· 220 grams of chicken
· 250 grams of potatoes
· 100 grams of greens
Meal 4
· 220 grams of salmon
· 100 grams of rice
· 100 grams of greens
End of day treat / dessert
· 250 grams of Greek yogurt
· 30 grams of almond butter
· 100 grams of bananas for a parfait
Notice how all the portions are weighed out? What did we tell you, success doesn’t happen by chance! You can’t take a half-assed approach and eyeball your portion sizes even when you’re at an elite level like Hafthor!
By knowing what you’re putting into your body, you can then make the necessary adjustments to your nutrition to keep the results coming.
Weighing your foods doesn’t mean you have an eating disorder as much as looking at the meter on the gas pump when you’re filling your car with petrol doesn’t mean you have a petrol pumping disorder! Both simply allow you to be more aware of what’s going on so there are no nasty surprises later like unexpected weight gain or your car running out of gas on the highway!
Do you need to eat five meals per day like Hafthor? Of course not!
At a colossal 205cm tall, Hafthor is still one big dude and his current calorie intake, even when losing weight, would likely make the rest of us do the opposite and put on weight like nobody’s business!
What about his training?
Hafthor does a combination of cardio and resistance training and just like his diet, his training is very strict and regimented.
It’s this level of laser point, digital focus that yields world class results!
See the man, the myth, The Mountain in action on his YouTube channel:
One thing we do think, Hafthor would definitely be enjoying his weight loss journey more if he had our cookbook in his kitchen!
Ending it on a funny note, if you thought the Mountain was a big fella, look how he looks stood with his brothers!
Take care folks, see you in the next post!
